It pains me so much to do this. You have no idea. If I hadn't started this community I wouldn't know what to do with my life. I'm serious. It started very innocently with me working on photoshop and wanting to show off my graphics because all the ~cool~ people on LJ were doing that. So I started the community and I don't know how it blew up but it did. I never would have thought that something I created would have over 5700 members. It's just crazy. I'm so proud of this community. I started it 4 years ago. That is such a long time! I am starting my Junior year of college now so that means I started it before starting 11th grade.
I meant what I said about this community changing my life because I realized that I love graphics making so much that I wanted to do it as a profession. I started as a Psych major and realized that I needed to do something different. I felt such a connection with art and photography and all these things and I realized that why does making graphics have to be a hobby? Why can't it be a profession? So I switched my major and I am so glad I did. Right now I have a graphic design internship in NYC and it is amazing.
So I owe this community everything really and I guess that's why I never wanted to close it. I knew that it's time was coming but I don't want to just let it slowly die without making a closing post. I have been here before - where I was deciding if I should close it or not - and was always persuaded not to. But this has to be the end. Because honestly LJ isn't what it used to be. Many people have moved on and the website itself has been kind of rocky.
Lightened has run its time and it has seen some amazing talented icon makers during that time. I just want to thank every icon maker who has posted here and made this community thrive for as long as it has.
Well, that is all I need to say. Again, thank you for I wouldn't know what to do with my life without all you guys. If you want to see some of my graphics you can check out my tumblrs. There's klurt where I post about my graphics and my random obsessions and there's thevanishing where I post more photography and personal posts.
I will never forget this community and all of your love.
